The Ionia County Genealogical Society was formed January, 1997 for those interested in researching their families from the Ionia County area and those with an interest in preserving the county heritage.
Our Mission Statement
The Ionia County Genealogical Society is a non-profit volunteer group whose mission is to create awareness and preserve family histories within the Ionia County area. The focus of this group will be to develop genealogical resources and to assist all those seeking local history.
Meeting Dates and Times and Place
Regular meetings are scheduled for the second Saturday of each month at 1:00 p.m. There are no meetings in December. The meetings are held at the Freight Station Museum, directly behind the Lake Odessa Area Historical Society Depot Museum on Emerson Street, Lake Odessa, MI.
At each meeting you may expect to be greeted by one of the friendliest groups of genealogists in the county. A guest speaker will be at each meeting to share information pertinent to our “addiction” and you might even be lucky enough to meet a new cousin!
The meetings are open to the public and free of charge. Refreshments are served. Hope to see you there!

Membership dues are $15.00 per year.

The First Families of Ionia Co. Society consists of members who have proven that they are a descendent of a person who lived in Ionia Co. prior to Dec. 31, 1880. Members have completed the application process, carefully documenting their research, providing quality proof along each step of the way. Members who are accepted into the Society are honored at the annual banquet and receive a certificate of membership.
